why get fogged?
Tuesday, January 31, 2006

This blog is hosted by FogStock, a small and independent stock photography agency located in Portland, Oregon. So one of our goals in producing this blog is to call attention to some of the things we do, big and small, and maybe to try to get a few folks to license our photographs, and maybe to help keep our business growing for another few years. Or decades.

But, sitting in the polish and gloss of our cool new offices in Portland's emerging N. Mississippi neighborhood (just down the hall from a comic book store and a design firm and yet another great locally operated coffee roaster), a few more things seem obvious: the sweeping forces of conglomeration and commodification in our industry are changing not just the way we produce, use and license photography, but also the way we look at photography; the way we look at photography influences the way we look at our selves; and philosophizing and acting on the way that we look at our selves is essential to how we make photography, operate a successful business, and live an ethical life.

Who is this we of whom we speak? Is it this handful of people who work for FogStock, or who contribute photography to FogStock, or license our images, or maybe just blundered onto this site from Urban Honking or some other improbable connection?

Yes.

So check back in with us soon and we'll look at some pictures.
